I presented a work-in-progress paper, called ‘Capitalism and the Very Long Term’, at the Understanding Value X Conference, organised by the University of Sheffield, last week. I’d previously presented similar work at the Soth West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership inter-disciplinary conference on futures. In the paper I argue that capitalism has a tendency to under-serve the very long-term interests of humanity, and therefore that anticapitalism should be considered as an effective altruist strategy.
This is very much work-in-progress, so I’d be very grateful if you have any comments for me about it – especially if you think I’m wrong (and especially on the economics!). Email me at email@example.com.
